Knowing how to be solitary is central to the art of living. When we can be alone, we can be with others without using them as a means of escape.
— Bell Hooks

Humans were never meant to live alone.

We are wired for connection.

The flaw in this design comes when we look to others to fill us up, when we look to another (equally flawed) human to give us the love and acceptance we must first give ourselves.

Yes, we are biologically wired for partnership - there is no denying that.

And yet, if you can’t be alone with yourself…well. We’ve got a little problem, don’t we?

You are never alone.

The relationship you take with you everywhere is the one you have with yourself. Which, gentle readers, is why “running away”, either physically or metaphorically, never works…it’s the equivalent of a dog running from its tail.

Be alone.

Live alone.

Travel alone.

Eat alone.

Even for a short time in your life.

Be alone with your thoughts, no matter how uncomfortable.

Meet yourself, and get to know yourself….all your perfect imperfections.

Be alone, and understand who you are when no one else is around.

THAT is what it means when people say you must “love yourself first”.

Only then are you truly ready to be in partnership.

Sparkle on, friends 💖…
